Sea connections from Piazza della Concordia in Salerno are once again recommended as an excellent choice for a one-day visit from the farmhouse La Morella. The alternative is a pretty long car drive along the winding Amalfi coast road (1h45’ or more, according to traffic).
Positano was a holiday site for wealthy families since the times of the Roman Empire and remained a prosperous place for many centuries. It had nevertheless decayed to a fishermen village in the XIX century. The essay published in 1954 by John Steinbeck in Harper’s Bazaar “Positano bites deep” greatly contributed to its renaissance as a celebrated travel destination.
